The dry chemical uric acid test strip, is used for in vitro quantitative detection of whole blood and serum concentrations of uric acid. Uric acid is the main product of purine metabolism in the human body, and most of it is synthesized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. The balance between the synthesis and excretion of uric acid in the body determines its concentration. Hyperuricemia can be caused by either excess production or reduced excretion of uric acid.
Quantitative determination of uric acid excretion can assist with determining the treatment regimen for hyperuricemia. Depending on the results, patients may be treated with uric acid-stimulating excretion drugs to increase renal excretion, or with allopurinol to inhibit purine synthesis. This information is useful for healthcare professionals to better manage and treat patients with hyperuricemia.
